Macsa ID launches iCON2, an extremely competitive laser

Metal parts, such as bearings, also need to be marked for identification with their product reference, brand or lot number for later traceability. Metal requires a marking and coding that does not damage the surface and with a high marking contrast in order to read the data properly.

For this purpose, and in general for the marking of metallic materials such as stainless steel, we use a fibre laser such as the SPA F-9020, which by means of annealing – or changing the metal’s colour by increasing its temperature – we can obtain a permanent black marking of great legibility and without damaging the surface.

Coding with laser reactive ink on glass

Glass, one of the most widely used substrates in cosmetics and perfumes, is one of the materials in which laser marking is of excellent quality and which is also considered as one of the hardest. In addition to this, Macsa ID has developed a system that allows a QR code plus 2 lines of text to be marked on a base of laser reactive ink.

laser-coding-macsa-perfum-02The reactive ink base generates a black label as a reaction to the heat which then allows a clear and quality contrast to be made. Thanks to a patented system, the permanence and durability of the reactive layer against scratches and/or external agents is guaranteed.

With this system, which achieves high marking speeds, the possibility arises of marking variable or promotional codes (QR codes to be read with a smartphone) on substrates (glass) that previously required a machine vision system in order to be read later on. Moreover, the IP54 protection of the system prevents the glass debris produced from the marking from entering the laser or damaging the lens.

The Falsified Medicines Directive (Directive 2011/62/EU) establishes solutions to combat counterfeit medicines. It is a key priority in the Medical and Pharmaceutical Sector as all pharmaceutical laboratories with prescription medicines must comply with the EU-FMD before the deadline of 9th February 2019.

On the 5th October we attended the ‘Are you ready for serialisation?’ conference organised by AECOC (in Madrid), where we participated in the roundtable to discuss the new regulations, inform manufacturers of the effect they will have and offer our different solutions. We were also present at the same event held in Barcelona on 18th October.

Marking a data matrix on aluminum

In the automotive industry many different component manufacturers are involved to deliver the parts needed for final assembly. The productivity demands of the automotive sector necessitate coding and marking systems that enable the identification, control and traceability of all components at every stage of production.

The Macsa Nano D-6006 laser is a DPSS laser that has been used in this case for a marking an 8×8 mm data matrix containing 33 alphanumeric characters on plastic automotive components.

 

This laser produces a high contrast mark that can be read reliably by an automated code reader. Thanks to its compact design the laser is integrated in a small iLaserBox.
