‘Annealing’ on stainless steel bearing

Metal parts, such as bearings, also need to be marked for identification with their product reference, brand or lot number for later traceability. Metal requires a marking and coding that does not damage the surface and with a high marking contrast in order to read the data properly.

For this purpose, and in general for the marking of metallic materials such as stainless steel, we use a fibre laser such as the SPA F-9020, which by means of annealing – or changing the metal’s colour by increasing its temperature – we can obtain a permanent black marking of great legibility and without damaging the surface.

In the automotive industry many different component manufacturers are involved to deliver the parts needed for final assembly. The productivity demands of the automotive sector necessitate coding and marking systems that enable the identification, control and traceability of all components at every stage of production.

The Macsa Nano D-6006 laser is a DPSS laser that has been used in this case for a marking an 8×8 mm data matrix containing 33 alphanumeric characters on plastic automotive components.

 

This laser produces a high contrast mark that can be read reliably by an automated code reader. Thanks to its compact design the laser is integrated in a small iLaserBox.

There are many reasons why the products are coded, thanks to Macsa ID laser equipment, almost all substrates may be marked with guarantees of permanence and contrast.

This is the case of aluminum valves. A 2D Datamatrix code marking was performed on them to control traceability.

The Macsa ID’s purpose in this project was labelling paint cans with different label formats:

  • Labelling System integration in a production line with a maximum cadence of 40 units per minute depending on the container size.
  • Automatic adjustment system that can label containers of different diameters without manual setting.
  • Labelling cylindrical and conical cans.
  • Automatic positioning system of the container by laser detector.
  • Handle positioning system.
  • Automatic containters dosage and separator.
  • Integration with transport systems.
  • Communication with the machine by Ethernet.
