The main function of concrete sleepers is to maintain the stability of the tracks when faced with the static stress caused by the train’s own weight and variations in temperature. Thanks to its lower cost and strength, wood sleepers have been replaced by concrete ones, but is a laser capable of marking a concrete block?

Glass, one of the most widely used substrates in cosmetics and perfumes, is one of the materials in which laser marking is of excellent quality and which is also considered as one of the hardest. In addition to this, Macsa ID has developed a system that allows a QR code plus 2 lines of text to be marked on a base of laser reactive ink.

laser-coding-macsa-perfum-02The reactive ink base generates a black label as a reaction to the heat which then allows a clear and quality contrast to be made. Thanks to a patented system, the permanence and durability of the reactive layer against scratches and/or external agents is guaranteed.

With this system, which achieves high marking speeds, the possibility arises of marking variable or promotional codes (QR codes to be read with a smartphone) on substrates (glass) that previously required a machine vision system in order to be read later on. Moreover, the IP54 protection of the system prevents the glass debris produced from the marking from entering the laser or damaging the lens.

In the automotive industry many different component manufacturers are involved to deliver the parts needed for final assembly. The productivity demands of the automotive sector necessitate coding and marking systems that enable the identification, control and traceability of all components at every stage of production.

The Macsa Nano D-6006 laser is a DPSS laser that has been used in this case for a marking an 8×8 mm data matrix containing 33 alphanumeric characters on plastic automotive components.

 

This laser produces a high contrast mark that can be read reliably by an automated code reader. Thanks to its compact design the laser is integrated in a small iLaserBox.

What is traceability?

According to the AECOC Food Safety Committee, traceability “is the set of those pre-established and self-sufficient procedures that mean that the history, location and distribution of a product or batch of products can be tracked at any given time along the supply chain, through the use of certain tools.”

Many of us have in our minds different cases of contaminated food products that have reached the final consumer and have generated scandals in the defence of both human and animal health. Food safety is the most important thing that must be provided to the consumer, since factors such as taste, smell or colour can be considered to be objective, but safety can never be negotiable.
