Being a soft material doesn’t prevent it from being used to make something strong as it can be combined with copper to make it suitable for plane or car parts. Food packaging doesn’t require this much strength, but alloying with magnesium makes easy to shape and seal. Aluminium laser marking is an effective method for marking and engraving. A MOPA laser is particularly effective at high contrast marking by annealing, as it only changes the colour of the steel, without removing any of the material. CO2 and fiber can be used for high contrast engraving and marking on anodized aluminium respectively.
