Laser marking on metal packaging for food
One of the sectors where traceability requirements have increased the most is that of olives. Due to the increase in demand for this product at a national and international level, the sector constantly innovates both at the product and packaging levels.
In the following Application News, we carry out laser coding on metal containers by adapting the marking parameters on painted metal, which is a characteristic container in this sector. The use of metal containers is very common in the food sector not only because it is a relatively easy material to mould but it is also light, durable and suitable for food preservation.
The food sector is highly regulated and controlled, for this reason it is necessary to carry out different types of coding and ensure correct traceability of the product, which allows monitoring of all its stages, from its origin as raw material to it reaches the hands of the consumer.
The choice of the technology with which to mark the container depends on factors such as cost, the production process and, above all, the type of substrate to be marked. In today’s application, the laser that best meets the marking requirements is the Macsa id SPA 2 C with 30W power and a 100X100mm area lens. As can be seen in the following photos, a high-contrast marking is achieved without affecting the container (barrier material), stripping the first layer of paint and ensuring that the marking is legible and of the highest quality.
