Flexible packaging laser cutting with HPD Series combines CO₂ laser scoring, microperforation and coding in one solution for packaging and converting lines.
It is designed for packaging and converting lines that need to create functional features directly on flexible films, including easy-open lines, controlled perforation patterns, windows and variable production information. The final configuration is defined according to the film structure, required feature, line speed and packaging design.
Laser cutting and scoring allow manufacturers to create opening lines, tear features, contours and other functional packaging elements without mechanical contact with the material.
Unlike blades, dies or punches, the laser process does not rely on cutting tools that require sharpening or replacement. Digital processing recipes can also make it easier to adapt the feature design when formats or packaging requirements change.
Flexible packaging often combines multiple layers with different functions. Laser scoring can be used to target defined layers of a laminate and create an opening feature with controlled depth.
The final tear performance, seal quality and barrier integrity must always be validated on the actual film structure before production.
Laser microperforation creates controlled hole patterns in flexible packaging. It can be used for fresh produce, breathable packs, venting applications and certain modified-atmosphere packaging formats.
The required hole size, pattern and density depend on the product, packaging structure and preservation target. These parameters should be defined and tested as part of the complete packaging application.
For products that require controlled gas exchange, microperforation can support packaging designs that allow the pack to breathe in a defined way.
The laser system is configured according to the film, product requirements and production conditions rather than using a generic perforation pattern.
HPD Series can combine several processes in one laser platform:
Combining these operations can simplify the packaging process and help align functional packaging features with the information marked on the pack. Laser coding does not transfer ink or ribbon during the coding process.
For coding-only applications, see our film laser marking solutions.
HPD Series can be integrated into different flexible packaging and converting environments, including:
The integration is configured around web movement, available space, required feature position, line speed, data interfaces and safety requirements.
No two flexible packaging structures react in exactly the same way. The process should be validated on a representative production sample, taking into account:
This validation helps define the correct laser configuration before implementation on the line.
Laser processing can support packaging innovation without relying on a new mechanical die for every feature change. From easy-open lines and shaped windows to perforation patterns and functional contours, HPD Series gives packaging teams greater flexibility to adapt the design to the product and market.
